Earl Gordon, age 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 9, 1928, in Philadelphia, Earl was an Army Veteran who proudly served his country during the Korean War. He worked as a tool and dye maker for 53 years at Victor Dye Works in Port Richmond. For the past four years, he lived at the Delaware Valley Veterans Home, where he was loved and respected. Earl was a passionate fan of the Phillies, big band music, game shows, classic films, and musical theatre. He possessed a quick wit and generous spirit and was always kind to those he met.
He will be remembered most as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Earl was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Gertrude (nee Smith), and his daughter Kate Petko (nee Gordon). He is survived by his children Barbara (Mike), Patricia (Jim), son-in-law Ed, Joanne (Bob), Earl (Fawn), Marion (Tony), and Diane. He was known affectionately as “Pop” to his 17 grandchildren and "G Pop" to 11 great-grandchildren and was loved by a large extended family and many friends.
Family and friends are invited to his viewing Tuesday, October 13th from 10 AM to 11 AM in St. John Cantius Church, 4410 Thompson St., Philadelphia. Funeral Mass will begin 11 AM. Interment and military honors follow immediately at the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 4300 block of Almond St., Philadelphia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls, 1000 W. Lycoming St., Philadelphia, PA 19140.
